The New Kindle From Amazon - Next Generation Reader
Amazon just launched (2010) the latest version of its Kindle, e-book
reader. Not surprisingly, the new Kindle model weighs less and
takes up
less space while still boasting a reading screen of six inches.
The screen's contrast quality has been boosted by 50%, and
readers
are able to turn pages with 20% greater speed.

The new Kindle offers twice as much storage space as the prior
version, and its offers
a month's worth of batter power. Those who are concerned with
the quality of the reading experience will find that new fonts
and other
features render all text much more pleasing in a visual sense.
Even more noteworthy is the fact that the Wi-Fi Kindle costs a
mere $139,
which is $10 less than the Nook e-reader from Barnes & Noble.
The Kindle 3 from Amazon
running on 3G connectivity remains priced at $189,
and
the Kindle DX, meant for optimized reading of newspapers and
periodicals comes in at $379. Beginning August 27, these next
generation
Kindles are set to reach over 140 countries and 30 territories.
The previous Kindle price reductions came in June, with the cost
being
lowered to $189 from its previous level of $259. Back then, we
attributed this decision to increased competition from the Nook,
which represents the most similar device to the Kindle with
regard to its cost and capabilities.
While the iPad does pose some
challenge to e-reader devices for the hearts and minds of
prospective buyers, the attractive pricing of single-purpose
devices
puts them on track to come out the winner. Kindle has also seen
great success in the realm of e-book sales. A particular
novelist has seen sales of one million copies through the Kindle
Store interface. According to Amazon, sales of Kindle
versions of their available products are outstripping those of
conventional, hardcover versions
