I LOVE my Kindle
I've been using my new Kindle for a week now and I wanted to
mention a few things I don't see in many other reviews.
But first I need to gush a little: I LOVE my kindle. It's
brilliant in its simplicity and it's surprisingly easy to read.
There's a wide selection of books available in the Kindle store,
the prices are good and the downloads are quick. I've always
bought books on Amazon so it's great that this is a product of
theirs. It's not that expensive either, especially when you
consider a 16GB iPod Touch costs the same. Not to mention the
Kindle itself is an amazing piece of technology, it comes with
an unlimited wireless connection. But here are a few things I
personally noticed.
I've seen quite a few people complain that the
Kindle falls out of its cover. I
wonder if these people noticed that you have to remove the
cardboard inside the cover before you slid the Kindle in. When
you do it right the Kindle isn't going to fall out. But I kind
of wanted a more attractive cover for it personally, so I got a
coach agenda book which was the perfect size for the Kindle. Not
to mention it makes it look classier.
Some people have also said it's hard to get to the power and
wireless buttons when the cover is in place. But sleep mode uses
no power, and that's actually a better way to turn the Kindle
off. I always put it into sleep mode instead of using the power
button. Like I said I've been using the Kindle for a week and
even putting it in sleep mode I haven't had to charge it yet. It
looks like the next model is even going to use one button
instead of two to turn on sleep mode. Two buttons is kind of
awkward after all.
Like others have said the "next page" button is a bit too easy
to accidentally press. But if you've got the cover on while
you're reading this won't be a problem. I prefer having the
cover on at all times myself. With the cover you really feel
more like you're holding a book, you know?
The next model also seems to have a feature where you can tell
how many pages or chapters you are into the book. For me this is
a really good thing to know. Sure the current model marks your
progression with a series of dots but I don't think it's enough.
I also love how you can access Wikipedia from the Kindle, and
also a dictionary. And the screen in sleep mode is pretty cool.
Although I do wish there was a reading light on the Kindle for
reading in bed at night. However I have to say I don't like
reading magazines or blogs or newspapers on it. I don't know
why, but it just doesn't do it for me.
I love gadgets, I've got some iPods, a PC, a laptop and some
other things. I never thought a Kindle alone could replace all
of these. I was also surprised that the screen itself is in
color, I figured it would be black and white. I also love that
it can access the internet and has an email address of it's own,
even though that isn't what I initially bought it for.
Although I still primarily use the Kindle for reading books.
It's a great gadget for people who love to read. And it does the
job well! I can't recommend the Kindle more.
