Amazon's Latest Kindle Readers - Quick Review
When the eBook readers first appeared, many people wrote them
off as another fad gadget, but as more people have discovered
how
easy they are to use, this fad has become a stalwart of the
electronic industry.
Every day, more and more of the world's book lovers have turned
away from the old paper versions of their favorite books and
picked up
the eBook as the way to read everything from the local paper to
the latest novels. The Emperor of eBook readers is certainly
Amazon's Kindle,
which is the most widely recognized device (especially after
Oprah gave it a huge endorsement on her show). Now Amazon has
released the
newest Kindle, which arrives with an even trimmer line than the
earlier models.
The Kindle 3 from Amazon , as many people like to refer to this new eBook,
arrives with a vastly improved e-ink screen, even less weight
than the already
light Kindle 2, a choice of traditional white or modern graphite
case colors, and an impressive memory capacity of 3,500 books -
nearly double
that of the old Kindle 2 versions. So should you pick up a new
Kindle 3? For many people who haven't tested these new eBooks,
it's probably
hard to understand why anyone would even care much less spend
time talking about it - who wants to look at a boring screen
when you can
have the feel and look of paper? True, you won't get that paper
smell or feel with an e-reader, but the e-ink technology does a
wonderful job
of reproducing the look of a book page - which is one of the
reasons that so many people have made the switch to eBooks.
But most users will tell you that the real reason they love
their eBook is the sheer volume of books it can hold. You can
download every
book by your favorite author and take it with you wherever you
go. Maybe you're on vacation and you finish the book you started
on the
plane, so instead of trying to track down the sequel in a book
store, you can download it right then and there (in less than a
minute thanks
to the built-in Wi-Fi) and you never have to leave your chair.
And imagine how much all those books would weigh, even in
paperback - the Kindle
is only 8.5 ounces and is so thin you can pop it a small handbag
when you've finished. (Of course, if you do carry it around in a
bag of any sort,
you should buy a protective cover for it so it won't get
scratched up by keys, cell phone, or any of that other
mysterious stuff that always seems to collect in bags.)
Ah, but that's not even the best part about the Kindle. The
really good news - it's now cheaper! Kindles can now be had for
just under $200,
a drop of nearly one hundred dollars for earlier models, so just
about everyone can afford the pleasures of a good eBook reader.
